Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization is a civilization-building game a bit like the computer game Sid Meier’s Civilization, most closely resembling Civilization III. Just about everything you get you should try to use shortly afterwards unless you have a plan for it.Īn age 1 church or arena is usually enough to keep you covered for faces - just grab whichever comes up at the best time. How to Play the Through the Ages Board Game Playing the Board Game Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization Lots of cards in hand means you don't have enough science, or you have given up opportunities to take yellow cards. Napoleon is easy mode for this.Īge III is about keeping that military superiority, upgrading per your age III event cards, and building one or two 20+ point wonders. In age II make sure you've got military superiority because event cards are going to murder you, and if there's a huge difference then aggression cards can really matter too. I honestly wouldn't even worry about military until age II, just get your economic engine going. Upgrading your government can be a big deal here if you got early alchemy and can spare the science, but an early upgrade in age II can be huge too (especially with Robespierre). You want yellow breakthrough cards to make this possible, and also yellow cards to make upgrading the resources cheaper. Try to get them for 1 action, but if you think you've got to spend 2, that's fine too. Pick up the age I upgrade to farms, mines, and labs if at all possible. Order can shift depending on yellow cards, but your output is so substantially increased by that opening that you're crippling yourself without it.
